The beginning

​

Volcano Hotel was originally built in 1967 to serve as a school for farmers children

in the area as well as being the community hall.  When the school was moved to Vík, the village, the former owners renovated the building as a hotel in 2011. 

Current owners are 2 families who live in the area.  They bought it in 2021 and look forward to welcome you all in their cozy boutique hotel.

Volcano hotel is located in the southernmost part of Iceland, in the beautiful surroundings of Mýrdalur valley, just beneath Mýrdalsjökull glacier with it’s volcano Katla.

Volcano Hotel is in only 170 km distance from the capital of Iceland, Reykjavík. The next village, Vík, is 12 km east of the hotel. In Vík you find a gas station, swimming pool, supermarket, restaurants, an information center and an ATM. Volcano Hotel is just by the main road (the official ring road) around Iceland.
